Not that long ago, I went wandering in the Drakensberg mountains.
Two steps away from home, they are listed as World Heritage because they count many cave paintings almost intact and open to the public. Unfortunately, I did not visit any of them but my little hike (8 km) took me on a high plateau with a mystical atmosphere, almost celtic, in the Highmoor Nature Reserve.
Wildlife is more difficult to observe than Kruger obviously. It is very difficult to get on the lookout in this huge space. But I still cross the path of a Bearded Vulture, which is pretty good! This species, Gypaetus barbatus, is considered “near threatened” by the IUCN and count about 100 breeding pairs in South Africa.
